Missouri Apple Varieties

Akane is a round, bright red apple with crisp, juicy, white flesh. It is often mistaken for Jonathan as it has a similar tart, sprightly flavor. Akane makes a great lunchbox apple and is tasty when dried. This variety was introduced in 1970 by Tohoku Agricultural Experiment Station in Japan.
