Description
Daniel Schachtman is located at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis. The broad aim of his research is to develop an understanding of the molecular mechanisms used by plant roots for mineral acquisition and for sensing changes in soil conditions. His lab is interested in problem soils that are deficient in essential minerals and water. Knowledge of the molecular mechanisms used by roots to extract minerals or sense changes in soil conditions will lead to the development of methods for changing root function to increase agricultural sustainability. They approach these questions by employing a range of techniques at different levels including: whole-plant physiology, molecular biology, proteomics and structural biology.
