Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships
Assistantships
Graduate students in the DPS are eligible for Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) awarded by the division or supported by extramural funds, such as research grants. The GRAs include an annual stipend and eligibility for the University's graduate student accident and sickness insurance plan.
Assistantships of at least one-quarter time carry a waiver of in-state and out-of-state educational fees. The amount of the stipend is competitive with those offered by other outstanding institutions and varies with the specific research program.
Graduate Research Assistantships are available to work with many faculty in the Division. Explore the faculty Web pages to learn of the diverse research programs of our faculty.
Fellowships
Each year, a faculty committee reviews all completed applications received by Jan. 15 for fall term admission. The applicants with outstanding qualifications are nominated to receive doctoral fellowships from two programs. Applications for graduate study are accepted throughout the year.
The Life Sciences Doctoral Fellowship program provides a competitive stipend to support four years of doctoral study. The Division of Plant Sciences provides a fifth year of fellowship funding. This prestigious fellowship provides students with travel funds to attend a professional meeting in the first year of the program. Review the details of this program.
The Division of Plant Sciences Doctoral Fellowship provides a competitive stipend to one outstanding applicant. The fellowship supports a five year doctoral program.
